15 Small Businesses to Further Develop Homeland Security Tools in DHS SBIR Program’s 2nd Phase

Fifteen small businesses have been awarded grants by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to carry out prototyping work in various areas, including an artificial intelligence-based distress alerting system. The grants, worth nearly $15 million in total, are part of DHS’ Small Business Innovation Research program. The awardees will have the opportunity to secure further funding to develop and commercialize their tools. The projects include the development of platforms for automated AI distress alerts, broadband push-to-talk interoperability, and screening for limited mobility passengers at airport checkpoints.
